Instagram is preparing for a small revolution with the arrival of video features powered by artificial intelligence, enabling users to completely transform their videos. A promising announcement that underlines the social network’s ambitions to push the boundaries of creativity.
Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s head, recently shared a fascinating preview of the upcoming features. During a demonstration, he playfully modified his appearance in real time: switching from a classic office to a snowy mountain where he wore a fur coat, or even transforming into a felt puppet. He even added a leaping hippopotamus to the background of one video. These impressive transformations are made possible by the Movie Gen AI model developed by Meta, Instagram’s parent company.
Limitless Possibilities
“You should be able to do anything with your videos—change your outfit, alter the setting you’re in… anything you can imagine,” said Mosseri. With these tools, creators will be able to use simple “video instructions” to generate fully personalized and immersive content. The aim is to offer more ways of expressing creativity and capturing users’ attention.
Set to launch in 2025, this new system leverages the power of Movie Gen AI, capable of producing high-definition videos (1080p) with audio synchronization and various aspect ratios. Key features include video generation based on descriptive text, personalized images, and precise editing via simple prompts.
This initiative clearly reflects Mark Zuckerberg’s stated desire to integrate artificial intelligence into all Meta applications to enrich user experiences. Furthermore, Instagram is not only introducing these groundbreaking tools; it is also making significant adjustments to its algorithm to give users greater control over the content they see on a daily basis.
Recently, a feature allowing users to completely reset the algorithm was tested. Users would be able to start from scratch by resetting their preferences in the Explore, Reels, and Feed sections—a move designed specifically to address concerns about teenagers’ well-being on the platform.
Concerns Remain
While these innovations spark excitement and curiosity, they also raise a number of questions. The potential to distort “reality” could reinforce certain problems that have already been identified with social networks—such as body dissatisfaction due to idealized content, or the increased dissemination of manipulated images that could mislead less informed audiences.
Nevertheless, the playful and creative potential of these tools is undeniable. Their success will likely depend on a balance between technological innovation and responsibility towards users.
By 2025, creators and viewers alike will have the opportunity to judge whether these new features truly enhance the Instagram experience or merely add another layer of complexity to our relationship with the virtual world.
